smurfity smurf

The trouble with getting behind with a blog is that it's hard to remember details associated with events that took place months ago
... almost 5 months in this case:(. Like why Mae chose smurfs for her "friend" party this year in the first place. She hadn't seen the movie. And she certainly hadn't grown up watching the strange little creatures on tv, like her mom. But, of course, like all things blue and tiny it definitely traces back to the I-pad;) ... In particular, moments spent as a family planting and harvesting plants in our very own smurf village:).

Waiting for the party to begin ...

Smurf house craft ...

Smurf-inspired food--blue corn tortilla chips, blue sixlets, four different types of smurf shaped crackers (all actually quite disgusting!), blueberry yogurt dip, and of ourselves blueberries.

Blue Smurf punch (aka, sugar-loaded kool-aid) ...

Smurf house(s) cake ...

Smurf village entrance (secret password: Smurfette) ...

Coloring a Smurf village while we wait for everyone to arrive? There's another poster (thanks, grandma Dueck) on the adjacent wall.

Getting all Smurfy w/ Smurf hats (thanks, grandma Loo!) and blue fingernails.

Playing "pop-a-smurf". The girls pop the balloons and try to act out the name of the Smurf tucked inside (that is, the name written on a piece of paper, of course;), while everyone else guesses. Too funny!

"3-apples high" apple stacking game-- cuz apparently that's how tall a smurf is. It was actually pretty tricky.

Being crafty ...

The final result ...

Opening presents ...

And blowing out b-day candles, not to mention eating cake ...

One last stop for a little blue makeup ...

Thanks for coming ladies! Happy b-day little Miss!!

I've been meaning to update our blog layout with the new family pictures we had taken in November.
