I had the privilege this year of being the girls camp leader for a group of twelve incredible young girls (ages 12-15) for an lds church camp that takes place every summer. The theme this year was "Campalot ... Build the Kingdom" and each ward (church group) was a different kind of kingdom character/creature. There were some really fun ones like unicorn, mermaid, pixie, etc. but of course we managed to be assigned as the Giants. Ugh. Initially I was not really very thrilled about our group assignment, but it did end up being kind of fun to come up with some crazy ideas despite the fact that we had to think outside the box a little bit.
Our giant cupcake that quickly became the evening mascot, and even more quickly the coveted dessert. yum!
More giant-ish cupcakes
Giant waters set out awaiting the girls' arrival ... can you tell our color is yellow.
At camp with my two amazing assistants!
Having a little too much fun ... yeah, we think we're pretty cool
My awesome group of girls (or at least most of them)!
One side of the firebowl ... we're the row in yellow:) yellow headbands, yellow pjs, yellow necklaces, etc.

Youth camp leaders (aka, the older girls) all garbed in pink, getting psyched up for the campers to arrive
Gertrude and Maddy, the long-legged giants my mom and I (mostly my mom) made for deco. One ended up on the biffy (potty:)), the other up a flagpole ... sorry big ladies
Our giant spirit fingers that we took to firebowl every night
Porter crazily awaiting scouts while I set up for our first camp activity of the year

I definitely should mention how amazing my family was while I was away. My dad came up for a couple of days and managed to survive tending to my four adorably insane children (and I do say that fondly). The grandmas, of course, helped as always--thanks, grandmas. And my ever-incredible husband did a great job playing mom for the week, that is, when he wasn't busy hauling the camp trailer, setting up and taking down camp, and carting his pregnant camp wife to the local Chinese restaurant:).
Looks like a fun girls camp. Thanks for the posts and photos!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed!!! Nice job with the camp stuff...being pregnant and all expecially makes it a little more interesting--but I bet that didn't slow you down one bit.
