For fear of sounding like a total Debbie Downer after my previous comment about pinewood derbies I hesitate to say this at all, but the truth is, Scouting kind of drives me crazy. It just seems like so much formality and hoops and tiny little details that I can never quite get straight. I know, terrible for me to admit this since I'm on my troop's committee. At the same time, though, I do love how Scouting "forces" my boys to get out in nature and participate in lots of cool, physical adventures!
This March 2014 adventure was an igloo outing in which the boys (and adult leaders/dads) built their own igloos and then stayed the night in them. I think this use to be a yearly ice-caving activity, and I'm not sure at what point it changed to igloos--or what the reasons were for the change--but the boys seem to love the whole idea of it all. Admittedly, I'm not sure I could be quite so excited about a night surrounded by snow and ice;) but I'm glad they enjoy it.
Here they are sledding, having fun with friends, and posing in front of (and on top of) their frozen abode.
Looks like they enjoyed some nice views!
And maybe even a bit of education about the surrounding area
(I believe they were in Mt. Rainier National Park).
Here are some shots inside a couple of the igloos. They claim that it's actually quite toasty inside, but I'm not so sure if you've got to wear a snowsuit to stay warm;).
One final pic with their buddies.
Good times!
