There are amazing parks here in Western WA. A friend happened to tell me about a pretty cool one (Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island) a couple of years ago, and last year we finally got around to checking it out. We first visited with some other moms and friends, and then later returned with Kevin.
The park is huge (77 acres to be exact) and is located right along the gorgeous Lake Washington. We enjoyed the well-maintained tennis courts, fun play area, paved paths for roller blading, and of course one of the two or more waterfront areas (pics below). The park also has lots of other gravel walking paths (in fact, it's probably a good idea to plan on a decent amount of walking), a dog park with washing area, and more.
We happened to visit on a beautiful, sunny day in late May. It wasn't really warm enough yet for full out swimming but the kids were still able to mess around and enjoy the water a bit.
I can't end this post, without putting a disclaimer out there that this park is not for everyone. If you are the type (as my sweet husband is) that likes to get out of the city to enjoy nature, than this will probably not be your cup of tea--in fact, it might drive you a little bit crazy;).
Even though it is on 77 acres, it is definitely an urban park in a lot of ways. It it likely to be full of people (especially on a beautiful Saturday like the day we visited) and your arrival may be preceded by some frustrating freeway traffic. I think there were multiple moments on our drive over that we seriously regretted the decision to visit. That's okay, though, it all worked out (pretty well) in the end:-).
