Despite life's challenges, we really are blessed beyond measure. Really, It never ceases to amaze me!
And here, yet another of those unquantifiable blessings ... great friends!!
So many generous, caring, thoughtful individuals who we are so grateful to have as part of our lives.
In this case, the fantastic Stucki family (I feel like I should be hearing applause right about now).
Our excursions together tend to be somewhat last minute and fairly unplanned (in this case consisting of a trail of paper plate clues), and always include some element of risk. (Although, mostly just the risk of not finding a camp site and/or each other. But of course bees, jagged rocks, and potent honey buckets may also come into play now and then.)
This year we found ourselves camping together just outside Rainier National Park at the cozy La Wis Wis campground. Which turned out to be an ideal place for our families.

The site may not have had a lot of good tenting spots (hence, the reason why all three of ours are wall-to-wall).

But there was certainly no shortage of dirt to play in. Seriously, whose child is that?!!

And basically hidden within our site, was a shortcut to hiking trails ...

And natural water slides--if you're crazy enough ... no problem for our kiddos.

Most of them got in on the action.

And it was gorgeous too (the sunshine didn't hurt:).

The kids (boys in particular) spent hours exploring the "hidden" area.

There was a lot to explore.

And then there was also the Ohanapecosh River (accessed through the main part of camp). Great place for throwing/skipping rocks.

Hanging out.

But a little cold for wading; although, Porter did decide to try it out (sorry about the lost flip flop, buddy!).

Our last day there we headed to the nearby Rainier National Forest to check out the Grove of the Patriarchs.

The name certainly suits the spot, as the trees there (well, some of them anyway) are seriously huge.
This one in particular.

Group shot.

The Ohanapecosh passed this way as well, and the kids simply could not resist. So we stopped for a bit.

B & J decided, or were possibly bribed to jump off this suspended log. Of course they were mostly happy to do it. Surprise, surprise. Made for some good entertainment!

And, that's about it.
Somehow I ended up without pictures of the tiny little river salmon L & K managed to catch with makeshift traps--like a plastic grocery bag. Of course it only took hours, but that's the beauty of camping. What else are you gonna do with your time??:)
