Okay so this is Kevin's yearly, long-awaited backpacking trip ... also referred to as "the man hike" or "crazy dad's who love to hike and fish club" (well, never actually that last one, but it could be called that someday).
There are only a couple of requirements for this hike:
-It has to have lots of big fish at the end of the trail.
-It has to make you want to puke at least part of the time.
-Bees have to swarm you at least once during the first day.
And ...
-It has to be named "Lake Mildred" (kinda narrows things down a bit, huh?!)
This was Kevin's second or third year with his awesome buddy, Doug the stud (he he, I just made that up). Last year Papa Dueck was his accomplice in outdoor manliness.
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to do this post justice since, in fact, I was not there myself and, well, Kevin is away in LV so I can't really ask him to refresh my memory at the moment.
However, no worries, pretty sure I know how this goes.
K and D start off at the trailhead (after a couple of hours in the car).

Their packs are pretty heavy (here's a side shot) since they simply cannot leave their fishing gear behind! I gotta say though, kinda sure K's pack was heavier/bigger last year.

Then they start off on the trail. This must be the easier part. In a previous year I included pictures showing the extremely vertical portions where they practically have to claw their way up.

And then fast forwarding many hours (only 3 miles or so but about 2300 feet in elevation gain), they arrive at this gorgeous lake (with 2 others fairly close by).

Not sure if the net is for the Mosquitos or the bees, but I'm gonna say either is a possibility.

Here's camp--right on the water's edge. The gray and green dome tent is D's, and K's is a camouflage hammock tent cinched up in the trees (behind the hanging laundry).

Interior morning view, straight out at the lake of course)

Enjoying a breakfast in almost complete solitude. Now this is the life (says the dude's club initiates).

And after beakfast (and actually lunch and dinner as well) they fish.

A lot!! Yep, that's one on the line.

And catch many beautiful rainbow trout. Here's just a sampler.

And when they're tired of fishing (which is rare), they chill out in a hammock overlooking the lake. Nice feet, Big D.

Or bask in the mountain sun (okay, so this is definitely "dude's trip" according to me:).

Until a couple of days later, it's time to head on out.

And return to a different kind of lake. One swimming with busy kids and tired moms. Did I get that part right boys? I mean, dude's??

Very nice guys!! In all seriousness I'm happy you had a great time, and have a friend as crazy as you (crazy about fishing, that is) to accompany you on this trip!
