wanna' do something completely insane??? (january 2018, extended edition)

Okay, so there was one other "thing" we kinda sorta did in January.

Here are some hints ...

It's something crazy
In fact, I'm pretty sure it's something only insane people do
It involves chopping and prepping hundreds of pounds of veggies
And washing thousands of dishes
It kinda feels like riding a roller-coaster
It always keeps you on your toes (no actually, to do this you'd better have a quality pair of cross trainers)

We took a massive leap into the great unknown and started a restaurant (insert here all the crazy faces you can think of)!!!

In reality, working towards opening this restaurant started LONG before January 2018 (around 2 1/2 years before in fact), but in January ...

the franchise was finally registered in the US (it's a Canadian company ... https://www.choppedleaf.ca)
we had finally arranged all the financial bits
the right location had finally become available (something that took months and months, as well as at least one false alarm)
insert here, about a hundred or so additional tasks, conversations, and/more milestones that had finally been seen to

In January our lease negotiation was finalized and we got access to our space ...

And began the long-awaited "build-out"!!

Oh you sweet, happy people ...

you don't even know what you've gotten yourself into (insert your best evil scientist laugh)

Number Five

I've been meaning to update our blog layout with the new family pictures we had taken in November. But since I'm not going to get around to it anytime too soon, I thought I'd include a couple with this post. Aren't ' they cute! And to finish off April, we have ... Earth-Day excitement! Porter's promposal to this sweet girl!! Which involved singing to her (with his bro. and buddies) in front of about 75 surprised onlookers. Happy Birthday to G-ma Loo:-) And sunny family day at the park ... Looks like the man bun is still going strong!;)

Baby Joseph

Another little miracle, Joseph Benjamin Dueck , arrived in our family September 5 th , 2010 at 3:23pm. Of course, every mom describes the birth of her children as miraculous--I know, I feel that way about each of mine--but in this case Joseph's healthy arrival really did turn out to be something of a miracle. But before I get into the story, I have some catching up to do since I haven't blogged at all about this pregnancy. So ... Here's me on the first day of school which was just two days before Joseph was born. Since I was taking pictures of the kids, James decided I needed one as well. I'm actually glad he did, because I had been meaning to get a picture of my baby "bump" for days if not weeks and hadn't gotten around to it. Of course, I thought I still had plenty of time to make it happen. And just very quickly, I have to throw out some highlights from this pregnancy which for some reason all have to do with Mae ...
