What's summer without a quick and crazy camping trip with good friends! After a very short breather following Ocean Shores, we headed out for a last minute, cram into the car, arrive in the dark, one night camping trip with some awesome, fun, great friends! As mentioned, we didn't arrive until kind of late--basically just in time to throw up a small tent, check out the river nearby, make a few trips to the flushable toilets (nice!), and visit around the fire, before getting shushed into our tents by the friendly campers down the hill.

The next morning we woke up bright and early, had a yummy breakfast (thanks, Doug & Mel), and ventured out around camp. It was a beautiful area (Staircase National Forest), and there seemed to be plenty of hiking. So we figured we may as well fit in a quick outing before heading back home.

And so the hike began.

Here's Kevin and Joe (as Porter has taken to calling him), checking out the trail map.

The kids climbed trees ...

enjoyed being with their friends ...
(as did the adults)

explored giant roots ...

and giant rocks ...

found cool sticks ...

skipped some rocks ...

and just hung out by the water ...

So the down side to the hike, was that a ways up the trail (right at the point where we probably knew we should have turned back;) we ran into a bit of trouble with an angry posse of bees. They were all hyped up about something and had a great time poking at several of our group members ... mostly small ones and mostly just those with a last name beginning with "S" (sorry guys). Anyway, I suppose there are no pictures of this because we were too busy running away. Maybe next time;).

Thanks family S for the fun adventure!

Number Five

I've been meaning to update our blog layout with the new family pictures we had taken in November. But since I'm not going to get around to it anytime too soon, I thought I'd include a couple with this post. Aren't ' they cute! The crazy part, though, is that as much as I LOVE these pictures (thanks to McKenzie Goff), they will already be outdated as of September. Here's why ... Dueck baby #5 Arriving September 24 th 2010

april 2018 misc.

And to finish off April, we have ...  Earth-Day excitement! Porter's promposal to this sweet girl!! Which involved singing to her (with his bro. and buddies) in front of about 75 surprised onlookers. Happy Birthday to G-ma Loo:-) And sunny family day at the park ... Looks like the man bun is still going strong!;)

Baby Joseph

Another little miracle, Joseph Benjamin Dueck , arrived in our family September 5 th , 2010 at 3:23pm. Of course, every mom describes the birth of her children as miraculous--I know, I feel that way about each of mine--but in this case Joseph's healthy arrival really did turn out to be something of a miracle. But before I get into the story, I have some catching up to do since I haven't blogged at all about this pregnancy. So ... Here's me on the first day of school which was just two days before Joseph was born. Since I was taking pictures of the kids, James decided I needed one as well. I'm actually glad he did, because I had been meaning to get a picture of my baby "bump" for days if not weeks and hadn't gotten around to it. Of course, I thought I still had plenty of time to make it happen. And just very quickly, I have to throw out some highlights from this pregnancy which for some reason all have to do with Mae ... Mae telling me (during the first tri...
