2015-16 wrestling season (january 2016)

Even though wrestling starts back in October/November, I like to wait and do one post at the end of the season. We really don't take a lot of wrestling pictures anyway--it's really the videos that are fun to watch. That said, we did end up with a few pretty good ones this year.

The best part of the season for us as parents was watching our boys as co-captains of the team--selected the previous year by their teammates and coaches. We're grateful for the respect, perseverance, and sportsmanship for which they've worked hard to be an example.

Here they are together before a match, with the refs and the other team's captains.

Group shot!

Proud parents:).

And now for the district championships.

The years of hard work that these two of put in have really paid off for them so far. They both went undefeated again this year, and looked forward to representing their school at the district finals!

Lined up for the final rounds. They are in white--Porter in the middle, James fourth from the end.

Let the wrestling begin ...

Porter's 2nd year as district champion!!

And James' 1st!!
(6th graders aren't allowed to compete on varsity so this was his first opportunity to participate at districts).

Podium time for James ...

Now Porter's turn ...

And just like that, another season of wrestling is over!

It's amazing to see how two athletes with such incredibly different styles and strengths can both perform so well in the same sport. Honestly, these two couldn't approach a match more differently, yet they both consistently excel. Gotta be some analogies for life right there:)!!

Number Five

I've been meaning to update our blog layout with the new family pictures we had taken in November. But since I'm not going to get around to it anytime too soon, I thought I'd include a couple with this post. Aren't ' they cute! The crazy part, though, is that as much as I LOVE these pictures (thanks to McKenzie Goff), they will already be outdated as of September. Here's why ... Dueck baby #5 Arriving September 24 th 2010

And to finish off April, we have ...  Earth-Day excitement! Porter's promposal to this sweet girl!! Which involved singing to her (with his bro. and buddies) in front of about 75 surprised onlookers. Happy Birthday to G-ma Loo:-) And sunny family day at the park ... Looks like the man bun is still going strong!;)

Baby Joseph

Another little miracle, Joseph Benjamin Dueck , arrived in our family September 5 th , 2010 at 3:23pm. Of course, every mom describes the birth of her children as miraculous--I know, I feel that way about each of mine--but in this case Joseph's healthy arrival really did turn out to be something of a miracle. But before I get into the story, I have some catching up to do since I haven't blogged at all about this pregnancy. So ... Here's me on the first day of school which was just two days before Joseph was born. Since I was taking pictures of the kids, James decided I needed one as well. I'm actually glad he did, because I had been meaning to get a picture of my baby "bump" for days if not weeks and hadn't gotten around to it. Of course, I thought I still had plenty of time to make it happen. And just very quickly, I have to throw out some highlights from this pregnancy which for some reason all have to do with Mae ... Mae telling me (during the first tri...
